State research institution Strategic Research Centre was founded in 1992 following the initiative of the scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences and under auspicies of the Deputies of the Higher Council of the Russian Federation, the Russian Federation Government, Office of the President of the Russian Federation, Defense Forces Command and the Government of St. Petersburg. Registered by the St. Petersburg Registration Chamber on 27. 08. 1992.
Current payroll is 35 (permanent staff). The major part of research and other work is carried out by SRC through its expert network enabling to get maximum effect and outsource the best expertise.

- Development of efficient socially responsible economy with optimum balance between state control and market mechanisms, rational resource use and conservation technologies
- Institutional development, technical, economical and intellectual potential of the country
- Development of legal and managerial criteria, civil rights and responsibility of the federal authorities and local authorities

- Development of legal acts, best practices and strategies based on scientific approach and reflecting advanced home and foreign experience

- Organization and participation in conferences and seminars
- Expert studies (including, inter alia, nuclear safety, energy, energy efficiency and transport issues)
- Training of scientific staff and fostering conditions for innovation activities (including business incubation, market development, etc.)
